Cinco de Mayo ‘Show & Shine’

Start

For the 2025 Cinco de Mayo event, the car show will be slightly different.  Lowrider cars, motorcycles, and bikes will be enhancing the landscape of Bessemer Park once again.  However, because the car show organizers realize that having a car show on a Monday will decrease interest and availability of participants, they have decided to offer this year as a “Show ‘n Shine” type of event.

What is a “Show ‘n Shine”?  It is a free event where enthusiasts can display their rolling art without the structure of entree fees, judging, and trophies.  It is more of an atmosphere of admiration without the competition. Participants will still need to register, but they can use the day to park, show off their rides, and partake in the day’s festivities. Event attendees often comment about how much they enjoy the cars.  It’s one of many of the event’s highlights.

Cinco de Mayo 2024 winners were:

  • Best Motorcycle – Robert Cordova – 1998 Harley Softail
  • 3rd Place Car – Patrick Gurule – 1938 Chevy Sedan
  • 2nd Place Car – Matt Herrera – 1960 Chevy Impala
  • 1st Place Car – Angelo Romero – 1957 Chevy Bel Air
  • People’s Choice – Anthony Trujillo – 1938 Chevy Panel

The car show organizers, Denise and Macario “Mackey” Torrez, are longtime lowrider enthusiasts who thoroughly enjoy adding another beautiful part of our culture to the day’s landscape. Denise states that the participants have become an important part of Pueblo’s Cinco de Mayo and consistently show up to support El Movimiento Sigue. A launch of the new Chicana/o license plate in the fall had a beautiful photo shoot and display of some of these loyalists.

This year there will not be a community cruise.  However, car show participants and others are encouraged to cruise “old school” style up and down Northern Ave. after the event ends at 7:00.  All traffic laws and rules should be obeyed to ensure community safety.
